Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex Released: Download it, Some Reviews and Tips

Bang of the release schedule, the next version of Ubuntu, Ubuntu 8.10 dubbed the Intrepid Ibex was released on October 30th.

Ubuntu Intrepix Ibex brings in some new features like

  • DKMS – Dynamic Kernel Module Support, DKMS means it’s very easy to rebuild modules (such as drivers) as you upgrade kernels.
  • USB installation support for converting ISO CD image files into USB-live compatible files.
  • X.Org 7.4 brings in hot-plug support for multi-monitor setup – plugin the external monitor and resolution etc are automatically detected and set.
  • GNOME 2.24 brings in some bug fixes and gives Nautilus tab support – which has been in Koqnueror and Dolphin since ages
  • Totem and Rhythmbox display a menu showing Free To Air media from BBC
  • Support for Guest Sessions – Guest sessions allow users to lock down a session easily so a guest can use the full system without interference with programs or data.
