I’ve owned a Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 for nearly 2 years now, and I use it pretty often with my previous phone ( the Sony Ericsson P1i ), and my current iPhone 3G. I also use it occasionally on my laptop. It has worked fine in Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7. Getting it to work with Linux, however has been an EPIC FAIL. The last time I tried it was probably a year ago, and I just gave up in frustration and continued to use my EP-630 as the earphone.
It’s been a while since I last used Ubuntu – I have generally shunned away from Ubuntu since Fiesty – for the main reason that I’m more of KDE guy, I never really liked Gnome, and my experience with Fiesty was rather unsavoury. You might say ‘hey you want KDE try Kubuntu’ - Kubuntu – well I won’t get started on that. I’ve been using Sabayon and was pretty darn impressed with that. With Jaunty being due for release soon, I decided to check Jaunty, even more so after Manish kept raving about Jaunty’s performance.
I am probably writing this post too late. To many out there this could be an old news. But, since it was long since I wrote on Sathya Says, (been searching for something to write about) and also this post is worth featuring here, I decided to write this. 
Recent times has given birth to many ideas in beautifying one’s desktop. Windows+Linux and related people contribute much towards this. Like Stardock, for example, is a company that offers variety of products to customise your Windows desktop. WinCustomize.com is also another website worth mentioning.
Installing Linux software through repositories is the safe bet. In respect with Ubuntu, there are many software in Intrepid Ibex which I feel is crap. For eg: the “Hardware Drivers” does not have drivers for older kernels. On the other hand, there are many software (like Brasero, Transmission,Totem,VLC etc.) in Hardy that needs update, which the Hardy repositories have not provided till now. To bridge these gaps, I would like to provide you all with the repositories of Hardy and Intrepid.
NOTE: Please think twice before installing software from other Ubuntu version repositories. It may screw up your installation

This is just a casual how to for people who love customisation. As of today the most wanted OS look and feel are that of Windows Vista and MAC OS X. Have a look at this post Damien has written on MakeTechEasier, will help you get that OS X look.

Finally, I would like to give you a small tip. I encountered certain problems with customising awn dock. The theme specified for the dock did not give a complete imitation of mac dock. Also, the stacks did not work for me. So, in case anyone encountering same problem please use cairo-dock instead of awn. Because, in cairo-dock the imitation of mac dock is done well, it is more customisable than awn dock and stacks applet is aslo available for cairo-dock.

andLinux uses CoLinux as its core which is confusing for many people. CoLinux is a port of the Linux kernel to Windows. Although this technology is like VMware or Virtual PC, CoLinux differs itself by being more of a merger of Windows and the Linux kernel and not an emulated PC, making it more efficient. Xming is used as X server and PulseAudio as sound server.
andLinux is not just for development and runs almost all Linux applications without modification.

Being a Linux user can be really funny. You just go
reading few ignorant Windows users’ comments on How Linux is crap bla bla bla. Today’s source for making me laugh comes by way of Christopher Dawson’s article on ZDNet on Why Linux Will Not Displace Windows(a rather nicely written article, though). The best thing about such articles are the comments written by, let’s saw, rather “well informed” users.
